Drawing on the clay

In 2012 I started to include freehand drawing into my clay works monoprinting directly onto a raw clay sheet, or scratching the image into a plaster slab and laying wet clay onto that. My first models were news pictures of footballers, and later historic photographs of Olympic athletes. 'Olympics Through a Lens' (Time Out) was an excellent source and there were others from the internet. I was especially inspired by the African American gold medalists (1932-84) These works were made for the exhibition Printathon with East London Printmakers at the Smokehouse Gallery, overlooking the Olympic stadium.
